Invada Playlists #19: The KVB
Our next guests are Invada's very own "The KVB". The electronic-psych duo is made up of Kat Day and Nicholas Wood.
The KVB are long time friends of Invada, and came to the label in 2015 to release their album "Mirror Being", after a long list of previous releases which we were massive fans of.
Since then, The KVB and Invada have followed up with "Of Desire" (2016), "Fixation/White Walls EP" (2017), "Always Then 5 Year Anniversary Edition" (2018), "Only Now Forever" (2018), "Submersion EP" (2019) and most recently "Live at La Cigale" (2020).
The KVB's "Live at La Cigale" was released on digital platforms and as an extremely limited vinyl release, for which there are still a handful of copies left from our web-store. Each purchase comes with a free ticket to The KVB's online streamed gig, details of which are availavble on the product page.
Blending reverb-soaked shoegaze with minimalist electronic production, The KVB's music reflected Nicholas Wood and Kat Day's mastery of atmosphere even as their sound evolved over the course of the 2010s. Early releases such as 2012's debut album, Always Then, dealt in brittle beats and sonic blasts that evoked Cabaret Voltaire and the Jesus and Mary Chain in equal measure, but the duo's style became more streamlined and sharp-edged on later efforts such as Only Now Forever.

"We usually discover a lot of new music while we're away on tour - the things we hear half asleep in the van on the way to a gig or blasting in the venue before soundcheck. So since we've not been going anywhere recently, we decided to base this playlist on music from Film and TV that we've watched and heard during lockdown. Along with tracks taken from classic movie soundtracks, including one from the late Ennio Morricone, we've also included songs that have featured on everything from Stephen Merchant to Jonathan Meades." - The KVB
